Warehouse & Office Roof Overclad with Solar in the West Midlands

The JDB team is immensely proud to showcase one of our recently completed projects—a comprehensive roof overclad and solar installation on a 2,600m² warehouse and office facility located in the West Midlands. This project not only reflects our commitment to quality workmanship but also how refurbishment of industrial units can introduce sustainable solutions.

Our recommendation for the refurbishment of the old asbestos roof was to overclad, exchange existing rooflights and install a bespoke HD Sharman plygene gutter liner. Once the new roof was securely in place, we introduced a bespoke mounting system to support the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) array.

Experienced, Qualified and Trained Team

The project’s execution was managed by one of our experienced SSSTS (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme) certified leaders, supported by a team of operatives holding UKATA (UK Asbestos Training Association) NNLW (Notifiable Non-Licensed Work) certifications and overseen by one of our Contracts Managers.

Given the inherent risks associated with asbestos handling and roof work, we prioritised stringent health and safety protocols throughout the project.

Reassurance air testing was conducted throughout our time on the project for our clients peace of mind.

Independent Safety Advisors

Safety advisors; Construction Safety Specialists (CSS) were engaged by our client to independently audit the site, focusing on critical areas such as:

  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensuring that all necessary documentation was accurate, up-to-date, and fully compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Signage and Housekeeping: Proper signage and exceptional site housekeeping were maintained to create a safe and organized working environment.
  • Access Conditions and Welfare Arrangements: Safe access routes and welfare facilities were provided to support the well-being of our operatives.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Full PPE compliance was enforced, with all team members equipped with the necessary gear to protect against potential hazards.
  • Working at Height: Strict protocols were in place to manage the risks associated with working at height, including the use of harnesses, guardrails, and scaffolding.
  • Fire Plans, Plant & Equipment, and Scaffolding: Comprehensive fire safety plans were implemented, and all equipment and scaffolding were regularly inspected and maintained.

100% Safety Audit Score Achieved

JDB’s commitment to safety was reflected in the independent audit results provided by CSS.  We achieved a perfect score of 100%. Our client, who had worked with various contractors in the past, was highly impressed by this achievement, noting that such a score had never been attained before. This recognition reinforces our belief that investing in health and safety, and going that extra mile in our project delivery is a critical factor in all of our refurbishment projects.

The successful completion of this roof overclad and solar installation project has provided the client with a renewed water tight energy-efficient facility. The integration of solar technology has further enhanced the building’s sustainability profile, offering long-term financial benefits through energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint.

At JDB, we are committed to excellence in every aspect of our work—from the quality of our installations to the rigorous standards of health and safety we uphold. This project in the West Midlands stands as a testament to our ability to deliver innovative, safe, and sustainable solutions for our clients.
